Itinerary
- 8:00am – Meet your British Heritage Tours representative at London Euston train station outside. Boarding will commence from 8:15am and the train will depart promptly at 8:30am. Enjoy comfortable train travel with reserved seats in Standard Class between London and Oxenholme with Avanti West Coast. On-board refreshments are available for purchase. 11:10am – Alight at Oxenholme station – gateway to the Lake District – where your local guide will meet you on platform 1. The Lake District is characterised by stunning mountains, lakes and valleys dotted with pretty market towns and villages that date back to a bygone era. Taking in the spectacular scenery that inspired the author Beatrix Potter, this first day is an ideal opportunity to see the landscapes and places that held huge importance in her writing. Our itinerary gives you a fantastic overview of the Southern Lake District, introducing the culture and history of The Lakes, which created the landscape you see today. Visit Hill Top Farm, the first Lakeland home of Beatrix Potter, purchased by her in 1905 which helped to inspire many of her most loved stories. Then explore medieval Hawkshead village where young William Wordsworth attended school and where Beatrix Potter spent much of their time. Taking to the water you will enjoy a relaxing cruise across Lake Windermere – with its breath-taking scenery it features some of the finest views in England. Conclude your day with a delightful traditional cream tea at The Belsfield Hotel, a luxurious haven overlooking Lake Windermere. Savor fresh scones served with rich clotted cream and jam, perfectly paired with your choice of tea or coffee. Situated near The World of Beatrix Potter, this elegant hotel provides a captivating atmosphere for your indulgence, complete with breathtaking views of Bowness Bay. Evening: After checking into your hotel, relax and enjoy a dinner made with locally sourced ingredients, included with your stay. Accommodation: The Belsfield Hotel 4* hotel (or similar) Meals included on this day: Dinner
- Following a delicious breakfast, your second day is a pure celebration of the outstanding scenery for which the Lake District is renowned. You will be collected from your hotel to embark on your small group tour. Sit back and enjoy magnificent mountains, lakes and valleys from the south to the north. On this day you will see Ten Lakes - including Windermere, Brotherswater, Ullswater, Derwentwater, Bassenthwaite, Buttermere, Crummockwater, Thirlmere, Grasmere and Rydal. Enjoy free time for lunch in the market town of Keswick and see the Castlerigg Stone Circle with its 360-degree view taking in the surrounding fells. The stone circle dates back to 3000 BC and is thought to have been constructed before Stonehenge. A highlight of the afternoon is a visit to Grasmere – a picture perfect Lakeland village, nestled between the mountains and made famous as the birthplace of William Wordsworth. We recommend visiting Grasmere’s historic gingerbread shop which has been making gingerbread since 1854. Evening: Dinner is taken independently on this night. Guests may choose to visit one of the local pubs or restaurants in nearby Bowness or simply enjoy a second night dining at the Belsfield Hotel (to be paid locally). Accommodation: The Belsfield Hotel (or similar). Meals included on this day: A Full English breakfast.
